Connect Entra ID groups for user synchronization

Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) is Microsoft’s cloud-based identity and access management service. It allows organizations to centrally manage users, groups, and access rights across applications.

When connected to essentry, Entra ID enables:

  • Automatic user provisioning and deprovisioning

  • Centralized user and group management

  • Single sign-on (SSO) for employees

  • Synchronization of users based on Entra ID groups

By synchronizing Entra ID groups with essentry, you ensure that employee accounts are always up to date and reflect the structure and permissions defined in Microsoft Entra ID.

Prerequisites

Before you can synchronize Entra ID groups, Entra ID authorizations must be successfully activated.

This process is described in detail in the following article:

Make sure all required permissions have been granted as outlined in that article before proceeding.

Connecting Entra ID Groups

Once the required permissions have been confirmed, navigate to:

Company > Integrations

In this section, you will see the configuration area for Entra ID Groups.

If permissions have not yet been fully granted, you may need to click Grant Permission under Entra ID Groups.
This action will redirect you to the Microsoft login page, where you can complete the authorization process.

Selecting Groups for Synchronization

After permission to read users and groups has been granted, you can begin configuring group synchronization.

  1. Click Add Entra ID Group

  2. Select one or more Entra ID groups you want to synchronize

Once selected:

  • All users within the chosen groups will be synchronized with essentry

  • User data will remain continuously synchronized, even if changes are made later in Entra ID

You can synchronize any number of groups at the same time.

Manual Group Synchronization

In addition to automatic synchronization, Entra ID groups can also be synchronized manually at any time.

This allows you to immediately apply recent changes made in Entra ID without waiting for the next automatic synchronization cycle.
